Ad Gefrin Anglo-Saxon Museum and Whisky Distillery Opens to the Public
Visitors were offered a taste of Northumbrian tradition as Ad Gefrin Anglo-Saxon Museum and Whisky Distillery officially launched to the public in March 2023. Following an exclusive four days of viewing for the residents of Wooler, Northumberland, Ad Gefrin opened to the general public on Saturday 25th March.
The museum and distillery have opened to acclaim, listed as one of the top ten most anticipated museum openings worldwide by The Smithsonian Magazine, aiming to attract over 35,000 visitors in its first year.
The project has created a new tourist attraction for the Northeast and creates jobs and opportunities for the local economy. Ad Gefrin includes a working whisky Distillery, Barrel Store, Bistro, Retail, Function Room, and Museum.
Michael Grubb Studio was directly appointed at the early stages of planning in 2019 by the local client Alan, Eileen and Chris Ferguson to create a lighting design which showcases the Ad Gefrin brand. Supporting the local community was fundamental, using local companies and craftspeople to create a landmark and legacy that celebrated their rich ancestry for future generations to enjoy and benefit from.
