Ad Gefrin Lighting Design is a Platinum Winner in the MUSE Design Awards
Michael Grubb Studio is overjoyed to announce that the lighting design for the Ad Gefrin Anglo-Saxon Museum and Whisky Distillery is the winner of the 2023 MUSE Design Awards.
Selected as a Platinum Winner in the Lighting Design – Architectural Lighting category, the lighting scheme was awarded for its innovative concepts to effectively illuminate multiple areas serving different functions.
Michael Grubb Studio was directly appointed by the local client Alan, Eileen and Chris Ferguson to create a lighting design which showcases the Ad Gefrin brand and provides a visitor experience in multiple areas, including a working whisky Distillery, Barrel Store, Bistro, Retail, Function Room, Museum and grand Atrium entrance. The use of natural light played a vital role in the design, with large windows allowing in plenty of daylight. After dark, minimal lighting was used to extend winter use and create a warm ambience, selecting a low level of brightness to respect the dark skies of neighbouring Northumberland National Park.
Michael Grubb, Founder and Managing Director of Michael Grubb Studio, said: “Our team are incredibly proud of the work we achieved on the Ad Gefrin project, and this prestigious award win proves our commitment to innovative and sustainable lighting design. There was a real investment in the local community throughout this project as the clients are a family-run business who were committed to involving and benefitting local people. This level of care can be seen throughout the details of the project and the high quality of the result, due to their craftsmanship and personal attention to detail.”
