Illuminating Experience: Ad Gefrin Wins LIT Design Awards

We are delighted to announce that Ad Gefrin has been awarded the prestigious LIT Design Award 2023 in the Visitor Experience and Museum Exhibition category!

Ad Gefrin, located in Wooler, Northumberland, is a unique blend of a museum and a working whisky distillery. Commissioned directly by local clients Alan, Eileen, and Chris Ferguson, this project celebrates the region’s rich Anglo-Saxon heritage while contributing to the local economy and community.

Michael Grubb Studio was engaged from the early planning stages in 2019 to develop a comprehensive lighting scheme that would enhance the visitor experience across various spaces, including the distillery, barrel store, bistro, retail areas, function room, museum, and the grand atrium entrance. Our approach to the Ad Gefrin project focused on merging traditional techniques with sustainable practices and modern efficiencies.

We are immensely proud of the recognition this project has received and grateful to everyone involved in bringing it to life. The LIT Design Award is a testament to our dedication to innovative and sustainable design that enhances visitor experiences and supports community development.
