AIR Studios, London

Michael Grubb Studio has been appointed by AIR Studios to provide lighting design services  for the development and refurbishment of their iconic home, located within Lyndhurst Hall in Hampstead, north London. 

Built in 1884 by Alfred Waterhouse, architect of the Natural History Museum, the venue is now home to exceptional recording and mixing studios that was created by Sir George Martin, legendary producer of The Beatles, Oscar-nominated composer and one of the music industry’s most versatile and imaginative talents. He produced a record-breaking 30 number one singles in the UK, and was recognised by the industry with five Grammys and two Ivor Novello Awards.

With three other leading record producers, Ron Richards, John Burgess and Peter Sullivan, George established Associated Independent Recordings and opened AIR Studios in central London in 1970. 

Among the Oscar-winning and nominated works recorded in the Hall are the scores for Atonement (Dario Marianelli), How to Train Your Dragon (John Powell), The Grand Budapest Hotel (Alexandre Desplat), Interstellar (Hans Zimmer), Mary Poppins Returns (Marc Shaiman) and Phantom Thread (Jonny Greenwood).
