AUB Student Accommodation
Michael Grubb Studio has been appointed by the Arts University Bournemouth to provide lighting design services for their new £17M student accommodation campus.
The proposed 9,000m2 project will provide 297 bedrooms, 269 of which will be delivered as cluster flats sharing a communal kitchen area, 23 as studio apartments with their own kitchen facilities and 5 as accessible studios. The new scheme will also deliver a series of communal study and social spaces and external courtyards and gardens, together with strategic landscape around the perimeter of the campus.
Once complete, the new student accommodation will provide high quality on-campus living for students studying at AUB, helping to support its growing reputation as a leading creative faculty. With its close proximity to the existing campus, the development will contribute to the University’s long-running sustainability ambitions though reduced travel distances and measures taken to prioritise pedestrians over cars. The building is targetting BREEAM ‘Very Good’, in line with recent developments, and will achieve thermal efficiency in its construction and incorporate photovoltaics at roof level.
Michael Grubb Studio is providing lighting designs for all areas of the accommodation, from student bedrooms through to communal areas, circulation spaces and the exterior landscape.
The project has been submitted for planning and is expected to be complete by Summer 2020.
