Photography Phase II at the V&A

Michael Grubb Studio has been appointed by the V&A to provide lighting design services for Phase 2 of the Photography Centre, which will create four additional gallery spaces in the Grade I-listed South Kensington museum.

This project will reimagine how the V&A’s world-leading collections of photography and digital media are experienced, and is expected to complete in spring 2023. It is the second phase of the Photography Centre’s transformation – the first phase opened in 2018 – and forms part of the V&A’s FuturePlan programme.

The V&A has been acquiring photographs since 1852 and now holds one of the largest and most important collections in the world. Comprising over 800,000 objects that encompass the medium’s entire history, the museum holds works by the world’s leading historic and contemporary photographers.

Michael Grubb Studio will be working with exhibition architects Gibson Thornley, heritage architects Purcell and the internal V&A team.
