Crowne Plaza Hotel & Spa, Newcastle, UK

Michael Grubb Studio provided lighting design services for Newcastle’s 250-bedroom, Crowne Plaza Hotel, located in the heart of the city.

Lighting key areas was a priority. The restaurant, gin bar, reception, lobby, leisure club, spa and the iconic Stephenson Banqueting Suite, which accommodates over 400 people, received full attention.

The lighting scheme is warm and inviting with contrasting levels of light that help create an environment intended to calm.

Lighting is discreetly integrated into much of the interior architecture, with additional decorative elements introduced to create warmth and a tranquil backdrop for hotel guests.

A 25-meter chandelier is the main feature. This is suspended within the main atrium void. The chandelier comprises of over 100 internally illuminated spheres, all of which have a section removed, ensuring that light refracts and provides sparkle.

An integral part of this project was to reinforce the core values of the hotel and ensure every guest feels at home.

The final delivery was commented by Richard Clouston, from Clouston Group, “Michael Grubb Studio have provided excellent lighting design for our hotel and are as ever a pleasure to deal with.”

“We especially love the beautiful schemes created for our spa, conference room and atrium.”

This was a project where the key audience was those who use the hotel every minute of the day. If you ever visit, be great to hear what you think.
