Dalston Roofpark | London
Bespoke lighting scheme for Bootstrap Charity’s Dalston Roofpark, transforming the space into a vibrant, flexible venue for evening events and activities with sustainability at heart of the project.
The central theme of the Dalston Rooftparkproject was ‘Sunset, All Night Long’. To bring the concept to life, the lighting consultants combined white light with a select palette of yellow, amber, and red filters. This approach subtly mimicked the natural transition of sunset, offering a warm and inviting atmosphere that enriched the overall experience for visitors.
In the Main Event Space, triangular panels embedded with coloured filters and integral LEDs provided a stained-glass window effect by day. As night fell, they became an illuminated feature, shifting the mood of the space through programmed lighting sequences.
For the Bar Area, a technique inspired by studio photography lighting was applied, using two contrasting light sources from adjacent angles. This simple yet effective approach created a warm glow that complemented skin tones, reinforcing the relaxed and inviting environment.
A particularly innovative feature was the integration of LED technology within the irrigation system, allowing planters and barrels to emit a gentle glow. This solution was both cost-effective and energy-efficient, aligning with Bootstrap Charity’s sustainability ethos while adding a distinctive visual element to the space.
Today, Dalston Roofpark is a thriving event space, hosting a diverse range of activities throughout the year. The lighting schemewas designed with flexibility in mind, allowing for easy reconfiguration to adapt to future needs while maintaining its striking aesthetic and functional efficiency.
